Gourmet holidays
Flavour & flair
To choose Appius is to spend your wine holiday in the homeland of fine wines such as Lagrein, Pinot and Gewürztraminer. Other reasons to choose our designer suites as you next destination include the local cuisine, fascinating cultural attractions and plenty of shopping, sightseeing and nightlife opportunities.
WineAround fifteen different grape varieties grow on the gentle slopes that surround Appiano, South Tyrol’s largest wine-growing municipality. Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir, Sauvignon and Trollinger – produced by both the St. Magdalener and Kalterersee wineries – are just a few of them. North of Appiano, in the direction of Bolzano, grows the renowned Lagrein, a grape variety from Trollinger and Teroldego. The mild climate, with 300 days of sunshine a year, and the mineral soils of South Tyrol offer excellent conditions for wine growing. |
The Wine RoadThe South Tyrolean Wine Road winds across the cradle of local viticulture, an area boasting 4,249 hectares of vineyards at altitudes of 200 to 1,000 metres between the Monticolo Lakes and the Mendel mountain pass. Dotted with picturesque castles, this area extends over 42 kilometres as the crow flies between the towns of Salorno and Nalles. The road has a total length of 150 kilometres, with 16 villages and 70 wineries along its route. |
WineriesWith more than 20 fine wineries and distilleries, the Oltradige area is a wine enthusiast’s dream destination. In Appiano and its surroundings alone there are eight of them: the Ortler Distillery, the St. Michael Winery, the St. Paul’s Winery, the Alfons Walcher Distillery, the Klaus Lentsch Winery, the Josef Brigl Winery, the Stroblhof Winery and the Strickerhof Winery. |
For a night outThe strong viticultural character of our land shapes not only its daytime activities, but also its nightlife. There are a number of stylish wine bars providing a cosy atmosphere in which to indulge in a glass or two. We can keep you informed about current events, cosy places for a stopover and the best venues to round off your holiday evening. |
